| Marshall's penalty reduced to one game August 29 Denver Post "With or without Brandon Marshall, the Broncos figured to have a tough time fielding a team that could compete with the AFC West champion San Diego Chargers. At least the Broncos will get their early-season chance against the mighty Chargers with Marshall on the field. Thanks to an appeal ruling Thursday the Broncos have to consider favorable, the NFL reduced Marshall's suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy from three games to one, but with a $52,353 fine (two weeks' pay of a 17-week season). Marshall's suspension will begin Saturday. Although it prevents him from playing in the season opener Sept. 8 against the Oakland Raiders, he will be reinstated Sept. 9 in preparation to play the Broncos' second game, their home opener Sept. 14 against the Chargers. "I'm very happy that the commissioner was willing to take a second look at this situation and give Mr. Marshall an opportunity to prove he will not make some of the bad choices he's made in the past," said Harvey Steinberg, who represented Marshall at his appeal hearing Tuesday in New York. "We were treated fairly and professionally throughout the appellate process, and we appreciate the way this was handled." In his first full season with the Broncos in 2007, Marshall had 102 catches for 1,325 yards and seven touchdowns. None of those touchdowns came in his two games against the Chargers. The Broncos had zero touchdowns against San Diego last year as the Chargers whipped Denver by a combined 63-6 score. Indeed, the Broncos need more than just Marshall's re-instatement to equal San Diego, yet comfort can be taken in knowing they won't be short-handed in their first game against the Chargers this year."
