Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl running back Marion Barber is dealing with painful bruised ribs, but the injury is not expected to keep him out of Monday night's game against Philadelphia.

Coach Wade Phillips said Monday that Barber "is going to be fine" and is expected to practice Wednesday and should not be limited in workouts.

Barber, whose X-rays were negative Sunday night in Cleveland, received treatment by the athletic trainers Monday morning to help the damaged cartilage on the right side of his rib cage. He suffered the injury in the third quarter and did not return after scoring two touchdowns and gaining 80 yards on 16 carries.

Barber's good news for the team was part of an overall improving injury situation for the Cowboys.

Quarterback Tony Romo had 13 stitches in his chin and X-rays were negative on his left hand.

Pro Bowl cornerback Terence Newman (groin) is expected to return against the Eagles after being inactive against Cleveland.

Receiver Miles Austin, out since Aug. 16 with an MCL sprain, ran on Monday and is expected to practice on Wednesday.

Outside linebacker Anthony Spencer (minor knee surgery) is expected to practice Wednesday for the first time since suffering an injury in the preseason opener at San Diego.

Receiver Sam Hurd, who missed the opener against Cleveland with a sprained ankle, has shed his walking boot and hopes to begin running on Wednesday.

Pacman's restraint

Cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones' first game back after being suspended last year offered proof that he at least is trying to stay out of trouble.

If he wasn't, Jones said he would have had a different reaction to Browns defensive back Nick Sorenson following a muffed punt in Sunday's game at Cleveland.

Jones said Sorenson grabbed his crotch in an attempt to get him to let go of the loose football.

"I told that dude, 'You're lucky I'm trying to do better because I would have got 15 yards for kicking your [rear end],' " Jones said."
