GAME RECAP

Juniors win, Seniors get stung

The Rhinos had a mixed day with the Juniors getting up and the Seniors on the wrong side of a big loss.

The Juniors took on the Wildcats in the first game of the day winning 30-6, the Wildcats started the scoring capping a long opening drive with a TD to their QB for a 6 point lead. The Rhinos were able to answer with rookie Michael Lynagh returning the kickoff for a TD with Ben Stower adding the 2 to put the Rhinos ahead 8-6, the defense improved and stopped the Wildcats offense forcing them to punt, Qb Gillen was able to guide the Rhinos down the field completing passes to Jacob Hanger before Stower ran in for a score, Lynagh then added another 2. More tough defense got the ball back for the offence with Scott Lehmann running in a 40 yard TD on a wr reverse for a half time lead of 22-6.

Ben Stower got his second TD of the game early in the second half with Lynagh adding another 2points for the final score of 30-6. Back up QB Jono Mahalic got some playing and was unable to add to the score but gained some valuable experience.

Seniors

The Senior Rhinos took on the defending champions Gold Coast Stingrays and suffered their first loss of 08.

The Stingrays attempted an on side kick at the kick off and recovered it to get first use of the ball and were able to drive down the field for the opening TD and adding another TD in the Second Quarter to take a 13-0 lead into the break.

The second half didn't get better for the Rhinos with the Stingrays adding 3 more Td's to win 34-0.

Rhinos win double at home

SENIORS

The senior Rhinos got back to playing winning football with a win over the improving Ipswich Cougars on Saturday.

Casey Bromilow started the scoring taking the opening kick off back for a TD to take a early 6-0 lead, the Cougars were able to answer right back with a good return themselves setting up their offense with great field position which they were able to convert to tie the game. Luke Jackson then returned the kick off for another Rhino TD to extend the lead to 12-6. Both teams exchanged possesion without luck to go to the break with the Rhinos up.

The Rhinos then added to their score through a Matt Neil catch in the third to give the Rhinos a 18-6 lead, the Rhinos defense was able to get on top of the Cougars with Dave Cunningham getting 3 interceptions. Luke Jackson then ran in a TD in the fourth quarter with the Rhinos able to add the extra points to make the final score 26-6.

JUNIORS

The junior Rhinos took on the undefeated Browns Plains Bears in the first game of the day and were able to quickly get the scoring started when Ryen Gillen completed a 30 yard pass to Scott Lehmann for a 6-0 lead. The Rhinos defense was able to get the ball back with Jono Mihalec picking off a Bears pass to give the Rhinos excellent field position. The offense was able to drive the ball down the field with Scott Lehmann taking a reverse 30yards for his second TD of the game and a 12-0 lead. The Bears challenged the Rhinos in the closing minutes of the half however the defense held them out to take a 12-0 lead into the break.

The second half started with the Rhinos hungry to score more points mindfull of a Bears comeback, Michael Lynagh ran the ball in for a TD with Lehmann getting the extra points to extend the lead to 20-0. The defense then controlled the Bears offense forcing them to punt giving the ball back to the offense which was able to again drive down the field this time with Ben Stower running in for the score with Nathan Wynder getting the extra points to make the score 28-0 which ended the scoring for the day, the win keeps the juniors in the top 4 and is a great boost as they take on the only undfeated team next week in the Gold Coast Stingrays.

RHINOS RECAP!!!

Saturday, October 11
Junior Rhinos big win

SENIORS

The senior Rhinos kept their hold on top spot on the ladder with a hard fought 14-7 victory over the Bayside Ravens.

The Rhinos started on a positive with Luke Jackson capping a early drive with a TD run to take a early 6-0 lead, both teams were unable to produce any points for the rest of the half to leave the score 6-0.

The Ravens were first to score in the second half with a TD pass from their running back and with the conversion took a 7-6 lead, they had a chance to extend their lead when the Rhinos failed to recover the kick off who were then able to hold out the Ravens and block a field goal attempt. The teams traded possesion into the 4th with no team getting on top until Casey Bramilow ran 68 yards for the TD, QB Stacey Porter was able to connect with his WR to add the 2 points to give the Rhinos a 14-7 lead which they were able to hold onto with some great defense.

JUNIORS

The junior Rhinos pulled off their biggest win of the season defeating the unbeaten Stingrays.

The Stingrays controlled most of the field position in the first half however the Rhinos defense was able to repel their offense, the Rhinos offense had moments in a close half with the 0-0 scoreline at the break a fitting result.

The second half was just as tough with both teams defenses controlling the game until a Stingrays fumble gave the ball back to the Rhinos, Ben Stower then made a break and ran 60 yards for the go ahead score. With the Rhinos hanging onto a 6-0 lead the defense stepped up and stopped the Rays from getting any points to give the Rhinos the victory. the only downside to the result was a possible season ending injury to LB Devon Kitts who had to be helped off the field.
