RENTON — Matt Hasselbeck said he was fine Monday. He looked mobile and his arm appeared strong in practice, fully recovered from a sore back he got after making a throw in the Seahawks-Minnesota exhibition Aug. 8.
That was then. Tuesday morning, Hasselbeck, the Seahawks star quarterback, left the practice field at team headquarters with tightness in his back, raising concerns about his health.
No further details were available on the extent of the injury, and it hasn't been determined if Hasselbeck will play Monday when the Seahawks travel to San Diego for an exhibition. Coach Mike Holmgren didn't speak to reporters Tuesday but will likely address the situation today.
Hasselbeck came out for the afternoon session Tuesday but only took part in stretching. He didn't appear to be in much pain. Not practicing could be more of a precautionary measure.
Backup Seneca Wallace has a groin problem that has caused him to miss practices this week. So Charlie Frye and Dalton Bell got the snaps in practice.
Holmgren didn't appear pleased with what he saw in practice, keeping the offense on the field while excusing the defense at the end of the afternoon practice.
